La Constitución Española establece que el castellano es la lengua oficial del Estado español. Y de acuerdo con los distintos estatutos son lenguas cooficiales el gallego(Galicia), el vasco(País Vasco), el catalán(en Cataluña y las islas baleares y el valenciano(en la Com. Valenciana).
También hay otras variedades lingüísticas protegidas también la ley, que son: el asturiano o bable(procedente del astur-leonés, y hablado por unas 100 mil personas como lengua materna y unas 500 mil en total), el aragonés(también llamado fablas, más de 11000 hablantes) y por último el aranés(hablado al norte de Cataluña, por unas 3 mil personas).
